Kuma's Train Tour

Kuma Bear's long train ride to Chicago started at Emeryville, California, near San Francisco.

Boarding the California Zephyr, he was shown to his luxury bedroom.

Kuma checks out the guide to the train's amenities.

The deluxe bedroom has its own toilet/shower compartment. Kuma says, "I don't want a shower!"

This sink is more Kuma's size. "But I don't want a bath, either!"

Kuma finds a comfortable seat, but says, "I can't see outside!"

With the help of many pillows, Kuma finds a comfortable place to watch the countryside go by.

At a stop in Sacramento, Kuma stepped outside the sleeping car with Kevin for a breath of fresh air.

Leaving Sacramento, there was a long climb into the mountains. Just before Reno, an on-board announcement mentioned trout fishing outside the train. Kuma's ears perked up and Lisa took him to the window where he could watch the fishermen in the adjacent Truckee River. Sorry, no trout for Bear today. Poor Bear!

Well, maybe he got luckier last night. At dinner on the train, I ordered the seared salmon, and Lisa asked for a piece of it to go with her steak. I gave her a little piece. She says that she doesn't remember eating it, but that it was gone by the time we left the table. Maybe Bear got a little bit of fish after all. He sure looked pleased with himself.
